Privacy Policy and Terms of Use
This page explains what data is collected when you use ShrimpSocial (shrimpsocial.com, also available in Turkish as karidesnest.com), what it is used for, cookies and ads, your rights and the community rules.
Who we are
ShrimpSocial is a community site where Caridina and Neocaridina ornamental shrimp keepers share their tanks, lineage records and water parameters, and message one another. The site also publishes free, public shrimp care guides.
Data we collect
- Account information: your email address, username, password (stored encrypted; we cannot see it) and profile information such as location and interests. If you sign in with Google, the name and email address Google provides to us.
- What you share: posts, photos, comments, messages, tank and lineage records; interactions such as likes, follows and reputation points.
- Usage information: anonymous statistics such as which pages are visited and device and browser type (via Google Analytics).
- Contact and reports: messages you send through the contact form or the "report" button.
What we use the data for
To create your account and keep you signed in, show your posts to other members, run notifications and messaging, improve the site, prevent abuse and show the ads that cover the site's costs. Personal data is not sold.
Cookies and local storage
A session key is stored in your browser's local storage to keep you signed in. In addition, the following third-party services may use their own cookies:
- Google Analytics: for visit statistics.
- Google AdSense: to display ads.
You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings. If you do, some features such as signing in may not work.
Ads and Google
ShrimpSocial may display Google AdSense ads to cover the site's costs.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other sites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You can turn off personalized ads in Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of third-party vendors' personalized advertising cookies at www.aboutads.info.

Third-party services
Supabase is used for the database, file storage and authentication; Netlify for hosting; Resend for sending email; Google Fonts for fonts; Google Analytics and Google AdSense for statistics and ads. Each service's own privacy policy applies.
Data security
Connections are encrypted with HTTPS. The database uses row-level security rules: a member can only change their own profile, posts, messages and records. Still, no system on the Internet can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Your rights (KVKK)
Under Turkey's Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data (KVKK), you have the right to learn whether your data is processed, to request information about it and to ask for it to be corrected or deleted. You can update your profile information yourself on the Settings page. To request deletion of your account and data, write to us through the contact page.
Users in the European Union and the United Kingdom (GDPR)
If you use the site from the EU or the UK, your data is also processed under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The controller is the operator of this site; you can reach us through the contact page.
- Legal basis: performance of a contract for your account and posts; legitimate interest for security and abuse prevention; your consent for analytics and personalized advertising cookies.
- Cookie consent: in the EU and the UK, analytics and advertising cookies are only used if you allow them in the consent banner. You can change your choice at any time.
- Your rights: you have the right to access, rectify and erase your data, to restrict or object to its processing and to receive it in a portable format; you can withdraw your consent at any time. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection authority in your country.
- International transfers: the service providers we use may process data outside your country, including in the United States. These transfers rely on the providers' safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
- Retention: account data is kept while your account is open and deleted when you delete your account; contact messages are kept as long as needed to handle your request.
Terms of use
- You agree not to harass other members, not to share misleading information about live animals or their health, not to use other people's photos without permission and not to share illegal content.
- Content that breaks the rules may be removed and accounts may be suspended. If you see inappropriate content, use the "report" button.
- Tank, lineage, species, grade and listing information are members' own statements. The "verified breeder" badge shows that the breeder is registered on the site and has confirmed the record in question themselves; it does not guarantee a shrimp's lineage or health, or any transaction. ShrimpSocial is not a party to transactions between members.
- The information in the guides is general hobby information; be careful and change your own tank in small steps.
- The site is intended for users aged 13 and over.
Changes
This policy is updated when necessary. Important changes are announced on the site. The date of the last update is shown at the top of the page.
